COMPLETED
1. Boot Camp went very well. There was an abundance of instruction. I now have lots of practical materials to work with for my fund raising. Plus I will be presenting general guidelines for missionaries, church planters and international students over the web.
2. On Monday the dentist finished the short-term repairs. Four upper teeth were filled. The decay is gone and the condition is stabilized. THANK God.
3. I talked with a man that has been involved in picking up items for and managing a thrift store for 7 years. He knows the real ups and downs of that area. The Pipelines Mind Map refers to working with thrift stores. He is a new advisor and perhaps associate.
CURRENT
A. One very important suggestion that will help me to stay focused while with the prospective donor is to write out what I will say word for word. I had resisted that recommendation before but there is no other way for me to get done quickly. My challenge is to leave out most of what I have been saying and just cut to the chase. For example I need to tell my salvation testimony in less than 3 minutes and the same about my calling. I could take 30 minutes on each of those in the way I have been rambling. They do not need to know ALL the details that can be on the web site and CD that I give them.
B. One of the big bottlenecks of my life has been juggling the zillion tasks. Mind Jet gives me a great way to present the Big Picture to the intercessors and prospective donors. Plus I have several mind maps to keep the projects organized. But when it gets down to tracking the specific phone calls, meetings, priorities etc God has sent a trial version of Task Timer http://timedesign.com/Pages/demo.html May God grant grace for me to go up the learning curve quickly. It seems to have much that I can use in the short term and long term.
UPCOMING
i. I need to QUICKLY put together a launch team that will come along my side until I meet the goal of enrolling a support team with total commitments of $2,000 per month before the 4th of July 2004.
ii. As an educated guess, if the average monthly contribution is 50 dollars then I need to enroll about 40 on the support team. If they are fairly well qualified then one in 2 or 3 will say yes. So that means that I need to present to 100 prospects face-to-face in the next 20 weeks or 5 a week.
iii. I need to go through the notebook and map out the action steps for the coming weeks and months. I need to share those with a key accountability partner and the launch team. Then it is just moving forward one day at a time.

v. You can pray now for the next round with the dentist. May God provide the funds for the root canals, crowns and bridge.

BOOT CAMP ENDING UPDATE
2-2-04
THANKS again for your prayers it was a wonderful workshop for all of us.
I was going to send a quick update when I got home. I felt tired and laid down for a minute – that turned into hours of sleep. Sunday is for rest.
I went to the dentist for major work today.
On Saturday I had lunch with a pastor that went on his first mission trip nine years ago. He was bitten with the mission bug. His local church went for passive to active about missions. Then even with a comfortable income and happy flock his heart told him that there was more. He recently resigned and is going around campuses to recruit for a major missions agency. He is one of several that I hope to keep in contact with in the coming months and years.
I told him and others about what is on my web site now and will be the in the future for missionaries. They were excited.
Each missionary has those that they are called to serve like college students, those in remote villages or leadership training for pastors overseas. I am called to serve missionaries, church planters and international students. I am to serve the servants. I am to equip those who will equip others.
At the end of the Boot Camp I took home a man that is raising up a team to plant a church in North Tulsa in an urban area that economically challenged. He is an African American brother. God has given us great rapport.
NEXT STEPS
I need to go through the three ring binder and review my notes. In this kind of a setting I jot down many notes quickly. They are not always easy to read. So I need to flesh those out while I recall what was said.
TODAY I have PLENTY of general and specific guidelines. From the three ring binder I need to line out the sequence of steps needed to reach my goal. During the last hour they asked us to set a challenging goal and make a commitment to achieve it with the help of an accountability partner.
My goal is to become FULLY FUNDED before the 4th of July 2004. That means that I there will be $2,000 per month in commitments from support partners before that date. That is 20 weeks for now. And that goal could be reached much sooner by the grace of God. When that happens I can leave my part time job at the seminary and dedicate all my time to the ministry.
Various people that could not afford the time or money to attend the Boot Camp asked me to teach them what I had learned. I am delighted to do that but that would cost a chunk of time to teach them one-on-one. So what I will be doing for them and the many missionaries I will encounter in the coming years is to post some simple summaries on the web. I will not plagiarize what I learned here but use this with they various other fund raising seminars to come up with my own teaching. I hope to put this into PDF files and Mind Maps with links to documents with summary notes, web sites, books and other related sources. That will be an on-gong project.
Please pray for wisdom and insight in the best use of my time this week and month.
A strong recommendation by the leader was to enroll a launch team to help you get to your FULLY FUNDED goal. This includes intercessors and donors. May God guide me in who to ask and how to ask them.
The banker wants me to do well. He is all about math. If I want to take more out of the bank, then I need to put more in. It is nothing personal between him and me. It is just addition and subtraction.
Bills are coming due soon. I need to get into action. Planning, preparing and teaching needs to be balanced with face-to-face asking. May God have mercy and grant much grace during this training season.
