ORGANIZING TONIGHT AND MANY MORE PIX
4-21-04

In my home office is a computer desk, regular desk, dinette table (used as a work area) and a reading chair. Some time soon I will share pictures of this with you.

On the dinette table right now are the papers related to both the new web site and finding the core story for the short and appealing face-to-face presentation. All those stack up to more than three inches. I have shuffled them around and around too many times already.

After frustration came prayer. I believe God is leading me to set up a hanging file box just for this current project. I have other file boxes and file drawers for other purposes.

These same papers will be referred to repeatedly for the coming months. They will lead the way in setting up the files related to this presentation process. Much more paper will be coming my way during the coming months and it needs an orderly place to call home.

Please pray for wisdom, insights and guidance during this process.

On Friday evening and on Saturday I will go through these papers and put the key ideas on a LONG Word document. It will be very orderly outline. From that I can develop the site map for the new web site and the shortened presentations. From that too will come the initial audio messages over the web.

I want you to join with me as I find the CORE STORY that people can quickly understand and easily want to support. It exists. It is at the hub of these many parts.

LATEST NEWS
4-21-04

There have been more interruptions and distractions than usual.

The Tuesday Briefing will go out tonight.

Also I have many pictures to share with you.

There has been some progress on designing the web site.
The new aim is to make the presentation into a simple story.

During the coming weeks and months I will be speaking to individuals and groups
I will 15 minutes to speak but more often it will be 5 minutes.
Then too it will be 50 minutes on some occasions.
So I am in the process of slicing the whole presentation into modules.
Then I can add or subtract as needed.
I can adjust the illustrations and appeals according to the audience.

The web site can tell the whole story.
The Power Point slide shows and diagrams with audio could be in units of 3 to 30 minutes.
The whole story could take 5 to 15 hours.
At first that that many hours shocked me.
But then I saw the dozens of items already on the old website that need to be addressed.
Also every week I check out sets of audiotapes that have many tapes on one topic.
There are sets with 2, 3, 4, 6 ,8 10 and 16 in an album.

These presentations may seem long to this hurry-up generation.
However they are the summary of dozens of books.
I have begun a list of one-page essays and three-minute messages.
Each of these needs one overview message and many subordinate messages
The list includes.
Evangelism
Discipleship
Benevolence
Missions
Stewardship
Apologetics
OMV partnering with the local church

Over the years various sources have said that you must sate your vision in 30 to 60 seconds.
That is easier said than done.
I am in the process of grappling with getting to the core of the ministry.
All the presentations to date have been 30 minutes or more and rambling.
I can hardly skim the surface of my notes in an hour.
Instead I feel like a bloodhound on a scent.
There is a CORE STORY that is under the surface of the features.
I have begun to write all the key ideas on separate pages.
There is an order and a flow between some of them.
So my challenge is to weave together the threads into a lovely tapestry.
I am finding paragraphs in previous essays that tell a slice of the story.

I have a presentation today at lunch with a friend to practice.

PRIME EXAMPLE
4-19-04

Here is a prime example of how the web platform of Our Metroplex Vision will work.

A real example can be seen as a tiny indicator of want could become.
Last week a seminary student received an email from a relative.
The cousin is sick of the worldly lifestyle and is starting to seek God for answers.
This seeker is out of state.
They can email and talk on the phone.
Both are very busy.
So I suggested a few web sites.
These have plenty of solid teachings.
www.rbc.net and www.christianity.com and www.helives.com
At He Lives there are online forums that are moderated by another seminary student.
The seminary student can listen and learn where the relative is growing.
He can suggest where to read in the Bible and how to pray.
He can point to such resources with confidence.
He can welcome any questions that this may bring up.

By this time next year I hope that this model is multiplied many fold.
There will be lots of links online for each kind of spiritual need.
There will be ways to bring together individuals into meaningful fellowship.
There will also be online and offline small groups suggested.

The pace of life is faster than it was twenty years ago.
There are more options than there were twenty years ago.
The pressures on time, energy and money are increasing.
These trends will likely continue.

What kind of a world will we live in twenty years from now?
What kind of a spiritual heritage are we passing along to the future generations?

So how can we harness the communication technology for God’s glory?
How can we bring together people, resources and opportunities effectively?
How can we consistently improve the stewardship of our time, talents and treasures?

I do not have all the answers but I have many of the questions.
What the web platform will do is to bring together the advisors unto collaboration.
It will allow teams of volunteers to work together.
We will work in harmony with the local churches.
Evangelism, discipleship and benevolence will improve.
The body of Christ in DFW will treat this area as our mission field.
